What is Laser Scanning in Construction?

Laser scanning (also known as LiDAR, HDS, or 3D scanning) is a process by which we capture, map, and visualise the 3D geometry of your existing site infrastructure by transforming it into digital models. We do this by capturing exact dimensions of the space with laser beams emitted from a scanner, which record the highly accurate distance and angle of each surface point it falls on.

Once we acquire this data, we compile it into a point cloud (a detailed digital map of the site) to provide your construction teams with a clear, up-to-date view of the job site. Our team then deploys BIM modelling by importing this point cloud data into design tools like CAD or BIM software, providing teams with a true-to-life model of the site to guide planning, coordination, and execution.

Why Laser Scanning?

Full-Site Clarity from Day One

Before a single brick is laid or a machine rolls onto the site, we make sure everyone has the full picture of the project. Using Trimble X9 laser scanners, we capture ultra-precise, high-resolution scans of the site as it actually exists, not as it's assumed to be. This real-world data provides your architects, engineers, and construction teams with a shared understanding from the outset.

No more guessing from outdated drawings or clashing over unclear scope. Instead, your team gets:

  • True-to-life digital models of existing structures
  • A real, measurable environment that replaces outdated drawings
  • A solid foundation for planning and execution

Surveying That Saves Time, Not Just Cost

Surveying That Saves Time, Not Just Cost

Getting started on a project doesn’t have to mean weeks of fieldwork, slow surveys, or waiting for reports. Our Digital Engineering team uses advance laser scanning to capture the site in precise detail, and they do it fast–we take millions of accurate data points collected in a matter of hours, not days. That means you have to spend less time on-site, have fewer boots on the ground, and a whole lot less stress.

With this, you’ll be able to:

  • Collect data rapidly with minimal manpower
  • Keep projects on track, even with tight timelines or active sites
  • Reduce downtime, delays, and manual rework
  • Make faster decisions with up-to-date site information

Design That Fits the Real World

Why design in a vacuum when you can design with real-world context? We take accurate, up-to-date site data and feed it straight into your design models, so you’re not working off assumptions or outdated drawings. With the real conditions already built into your model, you can spot problems early, design smarter, and move forward with confidence.

Here’s what this means for your workflow:

  • Detecting spatial clashes between systems like HVAC, MEP, and more
  • Easily integrating models into CAD and BIM tools
  • Avoiding costly design changes once construction begins
  • Improving accuracy in prefabrication and on-site installation

Design That Fits the Real World

Safer, Smarter Site Access

Safer, Smarter Site Access

Our advanced 3D laser scanning method eliminates the need for you to send your teams into risky or hard-to-reach areas just to gather measurements. Since we capture everything quickly, accurately, and without disrupting the site.

This approach means your crew can avoid unnecessary exposure to dangerous conditions, and you don’t have to rely as much on scaffolding, lifts, or heavy safety gear just to capture basic data. It’s a smarter, safer way to get the full picture, without putting your people in harm’s way.

Here’s what it helps you do:

  • Remote scanning of hard-to-reach or unstable areas
  • Less dependency on safety gear, lifts, and scaffolding.
  • Reduced exposure to hazardous conditions

Build with Confidence

When it comes to construction, slight deviations can turn into big problems if they’re not caught early. That’s why using our construction verification service, we can compare your design models with the actual site conditions, giving you clear, measurable insight into what’s really happening on the ground. You’ll know right away if something’s out of spec, so you can fix it before it snowballs into delays or extra costs.

This is a practical way to stay aligned with the original plan, keep quality control on point, and maintain a solid trail for inspections, approvals, and final handover. With this kind of visibility, you’re not just hoping things are built right — you know they are.

It also means you benefit from:

  • Alignment with original project specs and tolerances
  • Early detection of deviations for immediate correction
  • Strong support for ongoing quality control and reporting
  • A reliable record for inspections or handover

Build with Confidence

Digital Records That Keep on Giving

Digital Records That Keep on Giving

Our scanned data isn’t just useful during the build — it keeps delivering value long after construction is done. The digital models we create become a reliable resource for your team, helping with day-to-day operations, maintenance, future renovations, or even entirely new projects down the line. They’re like a digital blueprint you can keep coming back to whenever you need.

Here’s what you can do with them:

  • Manage facilities and track assets more effectively
  • Plan renovations or retrofits with existing conditions in mind
  • Reference detailed models for future upgrades
  • Minimise repeat visits by accessing accurate digital site data anytime

From Field to File

Our Laser Scanning Workflow

With our expert team and advance Trimble X9 Laser Scanners, we make sure every step—from capture to CAD—is smooth, reliable, and engineering-grade.

Site Assessment & Scan Strategy
Site Assessment & Scan Strategy

We start by evaluating your site to plan optimal scanner positions and coverage areas. Whether it's a new build, retrofit, or sensitive heritage site, we customise the scanning to your project goals and access conditions.

High-Precision Field Capture
High-Precision Field Capture

Using advanced laser scanners like the Trimble X9, our technicians capture millions of precise data points from multiple angles. Each scan takes only minutes and doesn’t interfere with ongoing site activity.

Registration & Point Cloud Processing
Registration & Point Cloud Processing

Once scans are collected, we stitch them together using specialised software. This creates a single, unified point cloud that's cleaned, aligned to a coordinate system, and ready for modelling or analysis.

Data Export & Model Creation
Data Export & Model Creation

Depending on your project needs, we deliver raw point clouds or convert the data into 2D plans, 3D BIM-ready models, or mesh surfaces. All files are optimised for compatibility with CAD, Revit, Navisworks and other industry standard tools.

Delivery, Handover, & Ongoing Support
