What is PDF?

PDF is an abbreviation that stands for Portable Document Format. It's a versatile file format created in 1991 that gives people an easy, reliable way to present and exchange documents - regardless of the software, hardware, or operating systems being used by anyone who views the document.

The PDF format is an open standard, maintained by the International Organisation for Standardization (ISO). PDF documents can contain links and buttons, form fields, audio, video, and business logic. They can be signed electronically and can easily be viewed on Windows or MacOS using Bluebeam Revu or any other free PDF viewer software.

Bluebeam Revu and its Unique Features

Customisable Interface & Profiles

Customise the Revu interface to suit your working style. Profiles can also be used to shape the User Interface of Revu for specific job functions within an organisation.  Revu comes preloaded with several Profiles that are geared toward specific jobs and functions.

Tool Chest

Standardise your custom markup tools across your company and saving them in the Tool Chest thus eliminating the time used in recreating them in the future.

Markups List

All activities/changes, comments and notes can be tracked in an easy-to-use, interactive spreadsheet that you can sort, filter, and customise. Create custom columns with drop-down options or formula calculations to assign a status, set material types, perform take-offs, add estimates and more.

Import comments

Import all markups from team members working on separate copies of the PDFs into your master copy with just a few clicks.  Don't waste time tracing or recreating colleagues’ markups, now you can simply import them right onto your own master drawing.

Text searches can be limiting, especially when working with large, complicated drawings.  VisualSearch in Bluebeam Revu allows you to search for graphical symbols in a document whether they are rotated, different colours, or have lines over them. Search results can be highlighted, hyperlinked, counted, and much more.

Batch link

When working within large document sets in a project, navigation can be difficult.  Bluebeam Revu Batch Link allows you to automatically create hyperlinks using file names, page regions, or page labels to make navigation much faster.

In any project, you will have a large document set collated from different contractors with different naming methodologies.  Bluebeam Revu Automark feature can rename page labels automatically by using bookmarks or a page region such as page numbers at the bottom of a sheet. You can even select multiple page regions and set prefixes and suffixes.

Compare documents

Reduce errors and save time comparing multiple versions of drawings. You can even set Revu to automatically compare drawings pixel-by-pixel and add clouds around differences.  The Compare Documents feature highlights the differences by comparing two PDFs. The differences are indicated with markups that can be reviewed easily using the Markups list

Overlay Pages

The overlay process in Revu lets you compare two or more PDFs by converting each document to a different colour and stacking them on top of each other as layers in a new PDF. Each layer is transparent and blends with the layers below it. Where the colours are stacked directly over each other, they blend to create a darker colour, making it easier to see which elements have changed and which ones have remained the same from revision to revision.

PDF creation plugins

Bluebeam Revu, all 3 versions, installed on your computer also installs a PDF creation buttons right into your MS Office menu, from where you can create PDF files by simply printing the document. Plugins are also available (in Revu CAD & eXtreme) for AutoCAD, Navisworks, SolidWorks, Revit, and SketchUp Pro, enabling you to create PDFs from within these software’s for easy sharing and collaborations. Batch creation of high quality, vector-based PDFs has never been easier!

Three-Dimensional PDF’s

Bluebeam Revu has the ability to print 3D PDFs direct from Revit, SketchUp Pro, or another 3D software. The three-dimensional PDFs can be marked up as easily as a regular document, but it has the added benefit of allowing the user to have a 3D perspective through the model.

Bluebeam Revu generated 3D PDFs incorporates information about the modelled elements within each project, such as materials and sizing information, which can easily be accessed simply by clicking on a component.  Bluebeam generated three-dimensional documents can be viewed without the need of a modelling program.

Bluebeam Studio is a collaboration tool that lets your team from different locations, collaborate in live sessions or with stored project files, simultaneously.  Up to 500 users can simultaneously work on and markup a single PDF file.  Studio also comes with unlimited cloud storage space and the ability to upload any file type, enabling you to have all of your project files in one space for all team member to collaborate on.
